A word a day keeps the cobwebs away, and so to help you pique your interest in the English language, here are 7 words to do just that.

Invidiousness

Pronounced: in-vid-i-ous

Invidiousness is a state of being or a quality. It means malevolent provocation, dislike, resentment, giving offense to others. Or as eloquently put in the shorter OXFORD ENGLISH Dictionary, it is when someone “looks with an evil eye”.

Intonation

Pronounced: in-to-na-tion

This word is probably known among the musical community and refers to the rise and fall of the voice in speaking or the tones of the voice.

Prodigality

Pronounced: prod-i-gal-ity

Prodigality is a word I would use to describe Dionysus or Bacchus, the ancient Greek god, known as the god of wine, madness, and religious ecstasy. Prodigality means; reckless extravagance in expenditure, wastefulness; especially of money, and excessive or wasteful spending, often with an eye toward the luxurious.

Thigmotaxis

Pronounced: thig-mo-tax-is
