Why I Can’t Be Bothered with Publications

So far on my medium journey, I have managed to avoid writing about Medium, something that not many authors can claim. However, I am officially joining the bandwagon.

My rant about Publications.

Publications are great, and I know that editors put a lot of hard work into collating and managing huge bodies of work from many people.

But from my perspective, any sort of participation in them simply takes too much time.

I am a full-time student midwife, working for free in an NHS hospital, which is a 2-hour commute from home (students have no say in where they do their placements).

I am not paid for working in the hospital for 40 hours a week, so outside of this, I have a job that also involves 12-hour shifts.

I am the sole carer for my grandmother.

When I’m not doing any of the above, or sleeping, I attempt to go to the gym and maintain a successful relationship with my long-term boyfriend.

Oh, and occasionally I write on Medium.

Researching which publications might be appropriate, reading (sometimes extensive) guidelines, applying to write for them, being accepted as…
